28 June 2010: Aegate is delighted to announce the appointment of Sir David Cooksey as an Advisor to Aegate's Executive Board.

Commenting on his appointment, Sir David Cooksey said: "Aegate offers a unique and important solution to a very real economic and safety issue; that of counterfeit drugs. Aegate is a tenacious company and its growth has been tremendous, given the complex commercial and legislative environment in which it operates. I believe my experience can help the company realise its ultimate growth potential."

Sir David Cooksey has served on the Boards of noted organisations including chairing the Audit Commission, as senior independent director of the Bank of England and as a Governor of the Wellcome Trust. He is currently Chairman of UK Financial Investments Ltd (UKFI), of London & Continental Railways Ltd and, until August 2009, Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation plc. Sir David founded and was Chairman of Advent Venture Partners which invests in companies with outstanding growth prospects in the information technology, telecommunications and life sciences sectors. He has written a series of reports for HM Government on the biosciences sector and medical research policy. In 1993, Sir David Cooksey received his knighthood and was appointed a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 2007 for his contribution to public service.

Sir David Cooksey's consummate commercial experience combined with his contribution to public service is fully aligned with Aegate's business ethos and mission to increase confidence in patient safety. "It is this that makes him a highly valued advisor to Aegate's Executive Board," said Gary Noon, CEO of Aegate "and we are delighted to have him on board."

Aegate's service enables individual medicine packs to be authenticated online by the pharmacist before dispensing to patients, confirming items are in date, not recalled or potentially counterfeit. The system also provides the latest drug safety information to pharmacists whilst dispensing, greatly empowering the role of the pharmacist. Aegate is now checking more than 1 million medicinal packs daily across Europe, on behalf of pharmaceutical companies. In protecting the integrity of medicines from drug manufacturer to the point of dispensing, the company will be operational in five European countries by the end of the year.
