Professor Trevor Jones, CBE, appointed to Aegate Executive Board

23 February 2010: Patient safety company Aegate today announced the appointment of Professor Trevor Jones, CBE, to a full member of Aegate's Executive Board. A noted veteran within the pharmaceutical industry, Professor Jones serves on a number of National and International Commissions and a valued member of the board of directors in several organisations including Allergan Inc, ReNeuron Group plc, Synexus Ltd ,Sigma-Tau S.p.A and NextPharma Technologies Ltd.

Professor Jones has held a number of senior advisory positions including the Pharmaceutical Industry Ministerial Strategy Group on Pharmaceuticals, the Board of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations (EFPIA) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA). In addition he was, for 12 years, a member of the Medicines Commission of the UK Government Medicines Control Agency and he retired from his position as Director General of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) in 2004.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Jones said "I am delighted to be joining Aegate's Executive Board, where my 40+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry can play a role in the future of this progressive company. Patient safety is something I feel very passionate about as counterfeit medicines remain a very real threat to the public. With Europe's first fully operational authentication service in place, Aegate is actively doing what others are still talking about.

"Professor Jones' extensive expertise and experience in the European and global pharmaceutical industry makes him an outstanding addition to Aegate's Board of Directors," said Gary Noon, CEO of Aegate. "With the important issues that are facing this industry, Professor Jones' breadth and depth of global experience will be instrumental in guiding our future strategies."

Having recently announced their entry into Germany, Aegate's unique medicines authentication service is now extended to five European markets with Belgium, Greece, Ireland and Italy all starting to recognise the benefits authentication at the point of dispense can bring to patient safety. Aegate's service enables individual medicine packs to be authenticated by the pharmacist before dispensing to patients, confirming items are in date, not recalled or potentially counterfeit. The system also provides the latest drug safety information to pharmacists whilst dispensing, greatly empowering the role of the pharmacist. Aegate is now checking 1 million medicinal packs daily across Europe, providing further proof that protecting the integrity of medicines from drug manufacturer to dispense is working.
