2003 - Aegate spun out of PA Consulting Group
Systems and technology management consulting firm PA Consulting announce launch of Aegate, a company dedicated to improving patient safety through the creation of its 'Authentication at the point of dispensing' service.

2003/4 - Aegate launches three month pilot in the UK with BT
Aegate runs a three month study involving 44 pharmacies and six drug companies to show that wrongly selected, illegal, expired and counterfeit medicines can be identified at the point of dispensing, with minimal interruption of the day-to-day running of the retail pharmacy.

2004/5 - Aegate repeats UK study in USA
Aegate undertakes the largest tagging study of pharmaceutical products the USA has seen involving over 40 pharmacies in the state of New York. The study addresses item level authentication of medicines before they reach the patient, showing the applicability of technology across different environments.

2006 - Aegate launches world's first patient safety system in Belgium
In partnership with L'Association Pharmaceutique Belge (APB), Belgium becomes the first country to pioneer Aegate's authentication at the point of dispensing patient safety service. The service becomes fully integrated into existing pharmacy software, meaning there is no additional technology requirement for the service to take place.

2006 - Technology completed development
Post pilot, full scale operational technology architecture completed and ready for implementation.

2007 - Aegate accounces strategic collaboration with Domino
In response to industry wide demand for flexible technology solutions to address security and patient safety, Aegate and Domino Printing Sciences Plc create an alliance to offer printing and management of data solutions to pharmaceutical companies worldwide. The collaboration between the two companies will further enhance the service and support that Aegate can provide pharmaceutical companies.

2007 - Aegate expands European presence with deployment in Greece
After successful implementation in Belgium, Greece becomes the second country in Europe to recognise the benefits of mass serialisation technology, using Aegate's service to ensure patients remain free from receiving sub standard medicines.

2008 - Aegate launches in Italy
Realising the need to protect patients from recalled, expired and suspicious drugs, Italy becomes the third nation in Europe for Aegate to launch its patient safety service in, allowing pharmacists to relay up-to-date information and assure the patient of the authenticity of the medicines they are receiving.

2008 - Aegate enters strategic collaboration with Axway
In response to industry wide demand to address security and patient safety for the pharmaceutical supply chain, Aegate and Axway create alliance to provide a secure and efficient drug supply. Combining benefits of track and trace and pedigree with improved patient safety communication between product manufacturers, pharmacies and patients.

2008 - Aegate transfers into IPEX
IPEX capital, an independent, UK-based venture capital company demerges from PA Consulting to becomes the majority shareholder in Aegate. IPEX continues to work closely with PA Consulting, providing Aegate with access to PA's broad expertise and reach.

2008 - Audit of fully operational system made public
Aegate opens Europe's only fully scale authentication service for operational audit. An independent study, carried out by the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium prove the Aegate authentication process is 100 per cent reliable1 and an effective method to identify authentic, recalled, expired and suspicious drugs at the point of dispense.

2009 - Aegate launches traceability service, extending drug authentication into the supply chain
